Prof. Chuck Freilich, a former deputy Israeli national security adviser and former senior fellow at Harvard’s Belfer Center, now teaching at Columbia and Tel Aviv Universities, will discuss the threats Israel faces and the strategies it has formulated for addressing them. Hollywood Star, Emmanuelle Chriqui is AGPI's Global Peace Ambassador. She encourages the community to stand up and support this incredible organization at its upcoming gala, The Crystal Ball Benefit.
10/24/21 – Toronto, Canada – Following its successful launch in New York and exclusive briefings in Israel this week, The Abraham Global Peace Initiative (AGPI) is now announcing the appointment of its innaugural Crystal Ball Benefit Campaign Co-Chairs. The new 100% Canadian international NGO is delighted to welcome respected community leaders, Mr. Jerry Werger and Mr. Frank A. Wilson. The campaign will officially launch in the New Year and culminate with the Crystal Ball Benefit on May 26, 2022 at Casa Loma.
The fundraising campaign will help AGPI represent its constituency globally in the fight against Antisemitism, Holocaust denial and distortion, defence of Israel and promotion of universal human rights. The organization has an impressive Global Board of Advisors which include the likes of Moshe Ya’alon (Israel’s former Minister of Defence and Vice Prime Minister); Colonel Richard Kemp (a former British military leader under Tony Blair); Fleur Hassan-Nahoum (Deputy Mayor of Jerusalem); and Ellie Cohanim (Deputy Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Antisemitism at the United States Department of State).
In a statement, AGPI’s Honourary Chair, Mr. Paul Godfrey, said: “Jerry and Frank are recognized leaders in the community for their philanthropy and ability to bring together people of all faiths and backgrounds. Both have held exemplary leadership roles as president of The Jewish National Fund Canada and have exhibited participation, activism, and generosity in other organizations. We are proud they are joining this big-tent organization that brings together people of common values who are advancing human rights."
In a statement, Mr. Wilson and Mr. Werger said: “What we especially like about this organization is its international focus. Its aim is to harmonize the Canadian brand of peace and democracy to stand up against Antisemitism, hate, and intolerance everywhere. Most significantly, its boards are comprised of Jews and non-Jews all coming together under shared Canadian values. We think that, given this organization’s expertise, its universal reach, and clear momentum, this will be a gamechanger for us in a few years as it grows."
In a relatively short time, the organization has already held international meetings with the United Nations and its affiliate agencies concerning Antisemitism and threats to Israel and the Middle East – including the Abraham Accords. AGPI is further joining forces with Israel’s Director of Antisemitism and Holocaust Education and is meeting with sitting ministers in Israel’s Knesset (Parliament) to discuss collaborative initiatives. At home, the organization continuously responds to Antisemitic incidents, and works with teachers, parliamentarians, mayors, and civil society to advance its mission and mandate. It recently launched an impactful exhibit called The Power of One.
In a statement, AGPI’s President, Mark Teitelbaum said: “In the last number of weeks, we have added a number of high-level leaders to our National Advisory Board. They include former BMO President and CEO, Tony Comper; former Senator Jerry Grafstein; and award-winning producer Robert Lantos. AGPI’s National Advisory Board includes top Canadian leaders such as David Onley, former Lieutenant-Governor of Ontario; The Hon. Bill Blair, Minister of Public Safety; and Peter MacKay, former Attorney-General and Minister of Defence.
The uniqueness of this organization will be exemplified by the difference of the Crystal Ball Benefit. AGPI’s Vice Presidents, Leora Shemesh and Justin Linden, said that “the organization aims to shake things up when it comes to events. We are thinking differently with ingenuity and innovation. We need to recreate both organizational models and frameworks that can move the needle and offer our members unique experiences. We have already begun doing that with our recent launch at the United Nations, offering our members unique opportunities to counter Antisemitism."
