Press Release: AGPI Demands University of Toronto Disallow Francesca Albanese from Speaking on University Property
Toronto, ON – October [23], 2024 – The Abraham Global Peace Initiative (AGPI) is calling on the University of Toronto to prohibit Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur for the Palestinians, from speaking on university property amid allegations of antisemitism.
Scheduled for November 7, 2024, the event has sparked serious concerns due to Ms. Albanese’s controversial remarks and stances that have drawn international condemnation.
In recent years, Ms. Albanese has been accused of making statements that many consider antisemitic, including comparing Israel to Nazi Germany, endorsing inflammatory social media posts, and downplaying Israel’s security concerns. As a result, in February 2023, 18 U.S. Congress members called on UN leadership to remove her from her position, citing her refusal to condemn terrorism and her inflammatory rhetoric. Despite this outcry, Ms. Albanese continues to hold her UN post, raising alarm in both political and academic circles.
"Granting a platform to someone with such a record, especially on university property, risks normalizing antisemitism and creating a hostile environment for Jewish students and faculty," stated AGPI's spokesperson. "We urge the University of Toronto to disallow Ms. Albanese from using its property to spread her divisive and troubling views."
AGPI also emphasized that a recent court ruling regarding encampments affirms the university's ability to control its property. While the university may not have directly invited Ms. Albanese, AGPI is asking the administration to act responsibly by preventing her from using their platform to promote views that could incite hatred or violence.
In past interactions with Ms. Albanese, AGPI expressed grave concerns. A Canadian delegation led by AGPI met with Ms. Albanese at the United Nations, where she reportedly dismissed allegations of Hamas storing rockets under UNRWA schools—further exemplifying her dismissive attitude toward critical security concerns.
Ms. Albanese has also criticized Brussels for adopting the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA)’s definition of antisemitism, a globally accepted framework. She reportedly suggested that scrutinizing Israel should be free of such guidance, further highlighting her problematic stance.
AGPI strongly believes that the university must uphold its commitment to academic integrity, inclusivity, and ensuring a safe environment for all students. "Free speech is a fundamental right, but it must be balanced with responsibility and truth. We call on President Meric Gertler and the University of Toronto to take swift action," the statement concludes.

Canada is Burning: Demand Action Now
Whereas our flag is being burned on city streets to chants of “Death to Canada,” “Death to America,” and “Death to Israel;”
Whereas pro-Palestinian demonstrators have declared their association with Hamas and Hezbollah;
Whereas terror organizations must be added to Canada's terror watchlist;
Whereas students on Canadian university campuses are openly inciting violence by stating that “resistance is justified” and destroying property;
Whereas Canada continues to fund UNRWA, whose staff participated in the atrocities of October 7th;
And whereas Canadians have a right to live in peace, dignity, safety, and security:
We are calling for immediate and decisive action.
Reclaim Canada from those who seek to terrorize it.
Strengthen hate crime and hate speech laws. Bureaucratic hurdles must be reduced to empower law enforcement to swiftly arrest and prosecute offenders who incite terror in our communities.
Combat terrorism at home. A dedicated task force must be established to continuously identify and list emerging terror groups. Their leaders should be placed on no-fly lists, their bank accounts frozen, and their influence dismantled.
Stop Campus Extremism. Whereas students on Canadian university campuses are openly inciting violence by stating that "resistance is justified" and destroying property.
End the funding of terrorism. Canada must immediately suspend funding to UNRWA, whose staff participated in the October 7th atrocities.
Canada’s security is non-negotiable. The time for action is now.
